"I read this book in 1 day and that was because the story was just that awesome. I really liked Portia, she was not a whiney character. Did I mention how much I love Tempest? He was just the most awesome male, so hot and sexy. Please, please, please read it, you will THANK me later!" – The Angel’s Pearl
Unlike her famous older brother Maxon, Princess Portia isn't known for killing demons or attracting admirers. The reason why is simple: a spell was cast on Portia, and the magic has marked her to one day transform into a dreaded Void demon. To fight this horrible fate, Portia’s spent her life hiding in libraries and learning magic. But when the Void demons threaten to destroy all the after-realms—and the handsome dragon Emperor Tempest offers his help—then Portia suspects that her future holds more than just a demonic metamorphosis. Fate is calling the bookworm princess onto the battlefield, and it’s a fight against both deadly enemies and her heart’s desires.

About the Author
Christina Bauer thinks that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. Oh, and she includes lots of humor and kick-ass chicks, too. Christina lives in Newton, MA with her husband, son, and semi-insane golden retriever, Ruby.

As if it wasn't clear I LOVED this book. Meeting Portia and seeing a different type of character was super interesting. She is kick-ass no doubt, but she is a different kind of kick-ass. She's not as battle ready as the rest of her family but she is fierce in a way of handling the adversity she has been plagued with from birth and not standing around waiting for things to happen to her but fighting to challenge them. And of course she's not completely unequipped in battle, she is the daughter of Myla and Lincoln after all. Oh and then there is Tempest. I liked him in Maxon sure, he was intriguing and such but now to have so much of him is even better! I can see what Christina was compelled by this dragon. He's a charming and mysterious bad ass with a soft side that makes you want to sin.
There is more magic in this story that previous ones and we also learn more about the world as a whole, how all the realms work and are connected. The story is a roller coaster that doesn't stop moving. There is constantly something happening, never a dull moment, probably why I couldn’t put the book down to sleep. You are instantly pulled into the world, into Portia's destiny, the salvation of all the realms. There is something in the story for everyone.
Portia and Tempest work together, both new to one another and figuring the other out but still working together on the quest. I liked how the story built. There is some insta-attraction, but come on both parties have part lust demon in them and are sexy that was bound to happen but the connection builds from just attraction which is something I loved discovering with them. Plus did I not mention he can turn into a full on dragon! How awesome is that? I would totally want him on my side. Even when there was some vague answers thrown about courtesy of our favorite angel of visions, seriously I think she likes talking in riddles, everything blended into the larger story. I also love how the characters I fell in love with from the first book are still active and present in the story and not just a foot note.
That's all I have to say on it. I highly suggest picking up Portia, the whole series really because they are all such great fun to read.

The story is sweet, action filled, and delightful.

I began reading this series with Maxon's book and loved it so I had to read this one. I really enjoyed Portia's story. I would be lying if I said that Tempest had nothing to do with why I liked the novel so much. I loved that Maxon made several appearances and watching the dynamic between the siblings through Portia's eyes.
The story continues to delve deeper into the mythological world that Christina Bauer's created and allows for Portia to have the staring roll when it comes to saving everyone. Portia is brilliant, loyal, honest, shy, and very passionate. She's wrapped herself up in seeking knowledge that most of her other parts of her life have taken a backseat. It doesn't help that she's marked to become a Void demon, either. Tempest is the first being to get her heart thumping. He's flirty, sinfully gorgeous, and very aware of her.
Emperor Tempest has seen and been through many things in his lifetime that leave others wary of him. He is cunning, assertive, thoughtful, and tentative. He notices Portia and gives her the ability to actually be heard when the others in her family ignore her. He's more than what he seems and far from the worst thing that could ever happen to the princess.
In order to save the world and Portia, Tempest aids Portia in her journey. He must hide his knowledge and heart for she is only able to learn of it when the time is right. Portia falls in love with him and learns he's been waiting 20 years to be with her which completely stole my heart right there. My heart says "property of Emperor Tempest."

Please don't tell me this is the end!

I’ve been going on and on about how much I’ve enjoyed the Angelbound series, and this book is no exception. This book focuses on Portia. The 19 year old has been living her life with a curse that is supposed to one day transform her into a Void demon. She’s spent her entire life working on her magic and trying to find ways to stop it from happening. Her research brings her to discover that a magical force that holds all the after-realms together is being destroyed by these Void demons. It is up to her to figure out how to save the after-realms, but she’s not alone. The emperor of the Furor – Tempest – has been enlisted to help Portia with her journey. Portia feels connected to Tempest, but what else is lurking there?
I liked this book more than the others… but there were also some parts of the story that just hacked at me. I’ll mention a few of these (somewhat spoilery) items below.
Things I didn’t like:
• What happened to their family? It seemed way out of character for all of them to just ignore Portia because she was the quiet bookish type. Yes, they’re a family of action, but it seemed very much out of character for them to seem so (inadvertently) mean.
• In the same vein, what is up with the family all judging Tempest and his interest in Portia? They all loved the guy… until he turned his eyes onto Portia. What? Now he’s not good enough? Reputations should not define people or their ability to change.
• Seemed cliché for good girl Portia to fall for the bad boy biker type, but if I’m honest, I still enjoyed it. Especially because Tempest took the time to really listen to Portia and consider her thoughts before springing into action.
Things I loved:
• Tempest had me at this English accent – yowza! Plus, he’s a dragon. Dragons have quickly become my animal/shifter of choice.
• When Verus sent Portia back in time to talk to Tempest… “Please come gather my heart. I’m waiting for you.” Oh em gee – my heart soared when I read this chapter! Twenty years!!!
• Portia and Tempest were able to look past appearances and reputations and see into what was the best of each other. Their connection seemed super genuine; not to say the other couples were not, but I was more emotionally invested in Portia and Tempest’s story.
The BIG Question - this can’t be the last of the series, right? I mean… if Portia didn’t inherit her mother’s gift, then that means there is still a Scala Heir that needs to be born? Will that be a child of Maxon or Portia? Does Myla and Lincoln have another child; their prolonged lifespans should not exclude it? I just can’t believe that this is the end. But if it is, it was well worth the reading.
