Invaluable information for any violin maker.

Easy to use book for any student from a master of the art of violin making. Easy to read and understand information layed out clearly on the page with good diagrams. Anyone could make a good, consistent violin from these notes without having to receive any initial training from a professional (though it is advisable that you do seek advice and training if you are happy with your results and are keen to make more instruments).
Old copies with margin notes from the violin makers that owned them are the best copies if you can find them as they address any problems you may run into that may not be fully explained in any book and carry the extra weight of experience while supplying an even broader range of views and information to the current reader. Worth the $300AU that it was valued at near the end of 2013, and as a book out of print, will likely just get even more valuable.

I just finished your third book and, just like the others, it was a real page turner. I liked the way the story developed as your three major characters all started working on bits and pieces of the story and having to wait until the end to get together and figure out the whole story. I kept thinking about the McMartin School case at the beginning, but there were no recovered memories or witch hunting DAs in this story. As long as you keep writing I'll keep buying. The Advocate's Conviction is the third in The Advocate series by Teresa Burrell. In this series Ms. Burrell offers a look into a world where children are faced with adult problems. Through the eyes of children's advocate lawyer, Sabre Brown, some of these issues are brought into light while offering a can't-put-down mystery/suspense. The Advocate's Conviction is well written; fast paced and will keep you guessing. I've read all the books but you don't need to; however, once you've read one, you'll want to read them all.

This series just gets better and better as you go along. Once again a very quick easy read. On Sabre's next case clients keep disappearing on her. She has to find out if there is a mysterious society at work here. She needs to find her kids before something else bad happens to them with the help of two best friends PI JP and Bob they dig in to solve this mystery. Now on to the next adventure with Sabre and the rest of the team, Bob and JP.

About the Author

Thomas Stearns Eliot was born in St Louis, Missouri, in 1888. He moved to England in 1914 and published his first book of poems in 1917. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948. Eliot died in 1965.

Ascerbic, crisp and correct-- brilliant essays.

An excellent selection of essays by Eliot. He is at his best in many of these-- ascerbic, crisp and correct. I am constantly amazed by the number of people who have opinions about the ideas and theories of Eliot, but who have never read his essays themselves. I suggest that before taking umbrage at what he is supposed to have said, a student of the modernists should at least read a bit of what he did say.

This selection is broken into two categories: Literary Criticism and Social and Religious Criticism. Essays such as "Tradition and the Individual Talent" and "What is a Classic?" (compare and contrast with G. Stein in "What are Masterpieces?") are particularly worth the time to read.

I wish that Kermode had included more of the social and religious essays and that he had not excerpted as heavily as he did throughout the book. I would personally rather read a longer book consisting of complete essays than having such a high percentage of the selection consisting of excerpts. Of the meagre three essays in the social and religious section, two were excerpted rather than being published in their entirety. Too bad.

Worthy collection

I found this book to be a useful compendium of essays that are usually scattered or incompletely represented in anthologies. It's an excellent supplement for a course on Eliot's work or to learn more about his critical perspectives and how they shifted over time. Very worthwhile.

What criticism should be.

Eliot's reputation has taken a beating in the last 20 years. He has been charged with anti-semitism, racism, elitism, and even misogyny. All of these charges are basically true. Nevertheless, as a critic his judgements are sound and dead-on. Read either "Traditon and the individual Talent" or "Dante" from this book and tell me if you think I am wrong. The book is worth the price for these two essays alone.

Doesn't look like Jungle Girl

Jungle Girl does not look like the Cho character we know and love. She's on the cover and the front of each section (issue therein collected), but in the regular story, another artist has taken over and given her a full-body leather outfit. We like Jungle Girl in her animal skin bikini, and I can't even bring myself to actually reading the story. (Her face is drastically different, too.) That's what I get for relying on past impressions and not flipping through it at some brick and mortar.

What happened to the Fur Bikini ?

It has been six years since Frank Cho's last Jungle Girl series ended in 2009. This volume collects the four issue mini-series from 2015. It features all the beautiful Frank Cho covers plus a 10 page prologue to the Swords of Sorrow saga which featured Jana the Jungle Girl as well as Red Sonja, Vampirella, Dejah Thoris and the female Kato among others.

This series may or may not be loosely based on the Hana Barbera series Jana of the Jungle. This story is co-written by Frank Cho and Doug Murray (of the Nam fame). We have a new interior artist in the form of Brazilian Jack Jadson who replaces Batista. The book's production is a little sloppy in that is still uses Batista's name in the Logo on page one and again on page three. Fortunately the cover is correct.

Jack Jadson is no Frank Cho but he does some pretty great Dinosaurs and the same type of Good Girl Art that makes the book popular.

Which brings me to my title question , why is Jungle Girl now wearing a skin tight black spandex jumpsuit for the entire book? She looks like the Black Widow and it really makes no sense to be wearing long pants and long sleeves on a Tropical Island. The only exception to this costume is on Frank Cho's covers and in flashbacks. I will try to include some interior photos so you can see the art of Jack Jadson and the Black Jumpsuit.

The story has quite a bit of continuity from the previous series but not enough so newcomers can't pick up on it quite quickly. My one compliant about the art is both the depiction of Jana's father and Mike Mize, Jana's friend she rescued in previous adventure both look almost the same. Both have goatee like Shaggy in Scooby Do.

Jana's only other regular cast member is Togg the Caveman who's name reminds me of Tragg and The Sky Gods.

This story adds in some Alien UFO's and some HP Lovecraftian monsters to the story mix.

In interviews Frank Cho has promised Season Three would give us Jana's origin and I am not sure if we really did get it or not. We do get the story of Jana's Dad, so maybe that is an Origin.

In summary this is pretty light hearted fun romp, but bring back the Fur Bikini.

Jungle Girl should look like Jungle Girl but after two volumes this artist went for a change to full body costume for this. The story wraps up well enough but it's like they brought in a different character visually. Disappointing.

finally

I have to admit a bit of a bias when it comes to the work of Ron Mueck..I have been a Special effects Make-up artist for over the past few decades and an artist myself...so his work is not only inspirational but also amazing reference for my own work.
this book captures his work with some of the best photography yet, the studio shots are what I have wanted to see since I first discovered his work on the cover of Modern Painter magazine ages ago....the text...well to be honest I have read enough artspeak gobbly gook to last a life time but it is informative although often pretentious to the ninth degree.
I have most of the other publications about his work and this one if by far the most lovingly photographed .
