Mr. Gunion doesn't stop there he delves into the current standard extensions to the now complete Standard Model such as Supersymmetry where the hopes are high to find some evidence for during the second run of smashing protons at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Europe ongoing as this is being written, so if you want to be in the know get this Higgs everything manual quick so you'll be one up on all your friends when they don't understand how there could be yet another Higgs particle discovered at the LHC!

The text in the book is not properly aligned with the pages, and there are several parts with ink stains on them; the cover picture is fuzzy and color-insaturated, looks as if it was a bad-quality photocopy or something.

I had to get this textbook for a class. The copy I received was softcover, black and white only, and most if not all of the pages were printed at a slant with little to no margins on some pages. I feel like I was the victim of some major bootlegging.

Robert Goldblatt is a Professor of Pure Mathematics at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He has served as the Co-ordinating Editor of the Journal of Symbol Logic and has been a Managing Editor of Studia Logica for the past two decades.

Clear, concise, and well motivated.

I have only read the first seventy pages of this book, but so far it is excellent. The character of the book can be likened to Kleene's "Introduction to Metamathematics" or "Mathematical Logic." The subject is well motivated by brief philosophical discussions, but the philosophy is not allowed to interrupt the flow of mathematical development. There are few exercises, but enough for the casual reader to check from time to time that he or she is understanding the material. The exposition itself is perfectly clear and concise, by my lights. Nothing important is skipped--one does not need to fill in the blanks in proofs--yet the book moves at a good pace. The focus of the book is on the development of Category theory in relation to its applications in logic. For this reason it is probably of more interest to a logician or a philosopher than to a computer scientist. Indeed, for the logician who is interested in Category theory this book cannot be missed. To put it bluntly, Goldblatt strikes me as a superior mind, even his brief remarks on set theory were enlightening. The book has been (to this point, at least) a very enjoyable read.

Enjoyable, though not as accessible as the author might hope.

I came to this book with an interest in philosophy of mathematics, formal semantics, and non-classical logics, attracted to the author's stated goals to make category theory and its implications available to both the mathematically and philosophically inclined by requiring very little background in set theory or mathematics. I have a fairly good grasp of first order logic, and know enough set theory to talk about things like Kripke semantics in a general fashion, and I find this book challenging. The author defines things like a limit on a diagram (fairly early in the book) and doesn't make it clear to me what the significance of the concept is supposed to be.

I do still find it full of suggestive and interesting ideas, and the author is clearly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. A general picture does emerge in the less formal discussions at the beginnings of the chapters, so flipping around a little can help you get an idea for the context. But ultimately I think this is still more accessible to graduate level math students, and I'm giving it a four star review because so far as I can tell, it succeeds in its technical aspects, and mainly fails only in reaching its entire stated audience.

Great introduction to the theory of toposes.

When Goldblatt's book first hit the stands, it was blasted by reviewers who had a geometric predilection. They claimed that Goldblatt had trivialized this essentially rich geometric subject by giving a set-theoretic treatment.
I became fascinated with topos theory in the summer of 1989. My only experience with category theory at that time was some dabbling that every graduate student gets in studying modules and in functional analysis. I didn't have much background in algebraic topology where the subject is usually developed considerably further.
Frankly, I found Goldblatt's "gentle" approach to categorical concepts and the concept of a topos very rewarding. I worked through most of the book in a summer, and was fully prepared to take on the more advanced texts at that point. Later, I had the opportunity to teach topos theory at the graduate level to people with backgrounds similar to mine (i.e., without a strong background in category theory). We worked through most of Goldblatt's book in the first semester and I guarantee that all the students were very grateful, as I had been, for Goldblatt's approach to the subject.
The book is well written, accessible to graduate students, filled with fun and often challenging exercises, and packed with references. In my opinion, it is the right place to start if you want to become proficient in topos theory (and you don't already have significant proficiency in category theory).

About the Author
Mary Wilson is a living legend as the co-founder of the world-renowned Supremes. Wilson is the only original Supreme carrying on the group's legacy to this day. Embarking on her 40th year in the music business, Wilson is still touring extensively and expanding her horizons. She recently made her first acting appearance in Lifetime's "Jackie's Back," featuring Jennifer Lewis and Tim Curry. Wilson is the mother of three and a proud grandmother. She lives in New York City.

Somewhat interesting

This is really two separate books in one. I enjoyed the first one "Dreamgirl My Life as a Supreme". Mary Wilson wrote what I believe is a very objective chronicle of the rise of the Supremes. Some reviewers regard her book as just an attack on Diana Ross. However, she said many good and positive things about Diana. I certainly believe she told the truth and I certainly see The Supremes in a completely different light. I always enjoyed their songs and I can now appreciate their hard work ethic and talent even more. From this account, I believe that basically Diana Ross sold her soul for fame and fortune. The way she treated Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson was inexcusable and just downright mean. This book is probably a good read just for Supremes fans. The second book "Supreme Faith" was not quite as much a page turner. I really glanced at alot of the content. There was some repetition from the first book, but not alot. It would be interesting to know what Cindy Birdsong is doing now and how the Supremes affected her life.

INSPIRING AND COMPELLING!

To the objective reader, Mary Wilson comes across as a warm and open person...exactly as she is in real life. (I have met her and spoken with her on occasion over the years). Indeed, this is a very personal work, from a very personal point of view.

The main players in the story, Diana Ross, Berry Gordy, and of course, Wilson herself, [not to forget the "ousted" Florence Ballard, upon whom the Effie character in "Dreamgirls" of Broadway and Academy Award fame is largely based] are accurately portrayed... and legions of other accounts confirm this.

Wilson never comes across as intentionally negative. Why should she? She is widely regarded as an extremely positive person. Indeed, she has defended the Supremes, and yes, Diana Ross, throughout her public life. She has supported and promoted the Supremes unique legacy every day. [In a conversation I had with Ms. Wilson in Atlantic City several years ago, where I was telling her how much more seasoned I thought she and Flo Ballard sounded on the MEET THE SUPREMES album, she defended Diana Ross by saying, "Oh, we were all good, and just starting out...We all were so proud of those songs." What class, I thought to myself. Ms. Wilson then graciously signed my copy of DREAMGIRL.]

Now, this is not to say that there are not juicy and spicy parts to this story...no, there are plenty of those! This was long the best-selling rock autobiography of all time! Anyone would be hard-pressed to match the drama, the excitement, as well as the heartache found in this story. A most interesting aspect of this work is the author's candor, especially about love affairs with Steve McQueen and especially Tom Jones.

However, what makes this story most remarkable is the development and growth of Wilson herself...particularly in recent years, when Wilson has become a celebrated author, motivational lecturer, humanitarian, musicians' rights advocate, actress, producer, mother, grandmother and college student.

A supreme testament to persistence, genuine-ness, and enthusiasm for life. An INSPIRATION!

The Craft Shoppe- A QuickBooks Simulation is a fun way to test knowledge of the accounting material learned in the textbook, QuickBooks for the Accounting Student. Everything needed to complete each task was right there, and it all looks so official, as if they were actual business forms. The guidelines in the instructions were like a “cheat sheet” to go about recording the transactions and filing the information properly. It was the perfect way to solidify the material learned in the textbook with hands-on practice.

Great Introduction to Quickbooks!

I bought both books in the series (The Craft Shoppe and the Textbook) as an introduction to QuickBooks. The instruction was clear and the layout of the book kept me motivated to finish it!
In the Craft Shoppe Simulation, you get to work with a "real" company, and get real hands on experience. I'd recommend this book to bookkeeping layman and financial professionals alike.
