So many errors...

Disappointed in the quality of the questions. Most of them are ridiculously easy and a handful are exceptionally hard (which I would expect). The reason I gave it so few stars is about 20% of the answers/questions I came across were wrong or so poorly worded that you could not ever get the correct answer. Example, one question asks the for "the maximum UDP packet size", which is in the answer set, 65,535, but the correct answer according them is 65,507 which is the maximum "payload" size not "packet" size.. The test is full of this type of misguided questions. Another question asked about "which is a better scanning tool?" NCAT or NMAP. Their was answer NCAT, which they then go on to explain how it is an improved version of Netcat (neither of which is a scanning tool). Nmap includes ncat in its install. I could go on, but hopefully you get the idea.

FYI, I was using the online testing engine, not the book. Also, no way to provide feedback on the wrong answers.

One plus, the score report shows you how much time you spent on each question, so that was kind of neat.

The real test cannot be this easy..

The real test cannot be this easy... I am thankful for the test bank as it helps me mentally prepare. I am using Skillport CEH v8. Taking notes, going through the material, answering questions with these practice tests. I have noticed Skillport is much more in depth than what these questions are asking. I would like to see more questions with images such as; Identifying more attacks, etc. I just find it hard to believe the real test will be this easy. With all respect to the author, thank you.

Is this exam really that easy???

Like someone else mentioned I started studying with this book and put it down because I felt like the material had to be wrong because there's no way the exam could be that easy...well I will tell you it is really that easy. Then again I've been involved in IT security for almost 20 years and has used every tool that was mention on the test. So if you have experience with tools such as those provided with with Kali you should be good to go. That being said, I bought this book and the other companion book (by Oriyano) to go with it both v9, but I just took the exam on Friday and the version that I had was v8, so I wasted money on these books. So long story short....if you have red team experience, hacking experience, or has been playing around with distros such as Kali for over 5 years, then this test is really "that easy".

If you're a Zappa fan like me, you MUST read this book

As a total Zappa-phile, I've read just about everything I could get my hands on that has anything to do with my hero, Frank Zappa. When I found out that Bob Zappa, younger brother of Frank, was finally going to complete his book about Frank's early years, I was thrilled. And now that I've read it, I am REALLY thrilled. This book fills in so much of what's missing in other Zappa biographies.
We've all heard Frank's account of certain humorous aspects of his youth, but he never really talked about his family that much. Why that is will remain a mystery I suppose but this book captures the growing pains of every person in the Zappa family in glorious and hilarious detail.
If you're a Zappa fan like me, you MUST read this book!

Bob Zappa's book on the early life of Frank Zappa is a MUST READ

This may be one of the most important coming-of-age stories in American history. The book not only depicts the early life of Frank Zappa and his brother, Bobby. It also paints a colorful portriat of the life and times of American during the time of one of America's most important composers and musicians.

There have been plenty of books written about Frank Zappa and his music, however, there has never been one book on the influences of his early life. The reason, of course, is obvious. There is only one person who has this story and that is Frank's best friend and his younger brother. The two kids grew up watching each other's back. Sticking together allowed them to survive their complicated, and at times dysfunctional childhood.

This is a must read, not only for Frank Zappa fans, but for anyone who is interested in a glimpse of life in America during the 1950's and '60's.

A Bunch Of Adventures!

Frankie and Bobby: Growing Up Zappa “We shared unique experiences that will disappear with me unless I make these stories public,” says Bob in his introduction to this truly enlightening, well written and revealing tome about the early life of Frank Zappa.

This book strives to demonstrate the affect the Zappa family's early nomadic existence had on shaping Frank's later life. Bob believes the constant moves caused the pair to grow up as misfits and led to them becoming fiercely independent. Having said that, they were clearly very close and protective of one another and, after they both fled the nest and went their separate ways, Bob talks of the anger he felt at not being around to support his brother in Montreux and London in December 1971. He also speculates whether his father's constant job changes were entirely down to his desire to better the family’s existence and his career or were enforced by his various employers.

Despite their shared experiences growing up together, Bob sheds some light on how the pair turned out so differently and on what drove Frank to become the super-creative person he was.

During the family’s time in Lancaster (a particluarly bad period for the pair, with troubles at school and an unsympathetic father), FZ became interested in UFOs and necromancy, and later told Bobby mysteriously that he'd made a bargain with the devil.

Later, Frank invited Bob to join him during the Mothers Of Invention's run of shows at the Garrick Theater in New York to act as his personal assistant. It was hoped he would wind up with a more permanaent role in his entourage. Frank was happy for Bob to drive up to New York with a couple of his old Claremont friends, one of whom was Dick Barber. Of course, it was Dick rather than Bob who wound-up securing a job with Frank.

The book is illustrated with many rare snaps of the family's early years as well as one of Frank's paintings

Good story, Corrected Version

Paul Hynes has come up with an interesting alternate history based on what could have taken place if Japan had not surrendered after the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. A number of scholarly counterfactual books have been done on this subject along with several other alternate histories. Even with all of that previous competition, Hynes has come up with a unique scenario with abundant twists. While a number of historical characters appear, his focus is on situations and events rather than in-depth characterizations. It all works as he weaves the possible main events along with peripheral actions together. That is the "good" part. Now for the bad! Hynes clearly displays what is becoming an increasing issue with self-published titles. The concept and much of the execution may be quite good only to be decimated (for the reader) due to incredibly poor proofing of the final draft. This title has that issue in spades and it is not limited to errors caused by over-reliance on a spell checker alone. In addition to frequent misuse and omission of articles (a, the) conjunctions (and, or) and prepositions (to, as) you will also find confusing run-on sentences and sentences containing edits that were never completed. There were several sentences throughout the story that contained two phrases, both which would work by themselves. One was clearly slated for removal which was not done. No, I am not an English teacher, just a very avid reader that finds the lack of follow-through incredibly disturbing, especially when a story is well put together and researched like this one. This title is in desperate need of a revised edition that has been proofed by someone the author trusts to eliminate the issue of reading what you thought you wrote rather than what is actually on the page when proofreading your own efforts. The next installment in this series is "Coronet" and while I look forward to where Hynes will take this alternate history, if this version isn't reissued in a fully corrected edition, I would hesitate purchasing it.

Update 3/17/2016: The publisher and author have re-edited this title and most (if not all) of my above criticisms have been taken into account. I can now fully recommend this to one and all alternate history buffs in addition to looking forward to Volume 2: "Coronet". With many thanks to Tom Black, founder of Sea Lion Press and Paul Hynes, author for taking my critique as it was meant and "going the extra mile"! Your efforts are greatly appreciated and will hopefully be rewarded.

Uncannily and eerily old tale of a Japan determined to fight to its last breath and the horrors of continuos atomic bombing. I can't wait for Coronet!

Dark. Not an unrealistic 1950s Hollywood opera.

Definitely one of the better alternate history books.

It is written like an (excellent) history book, analyzing what went wrong - from the style, it remembered me to Eric Swedi's "When Angles Wept".

So, if you expect a Turtledove or Conroy-like personalized story, narrated through the eyes of multiple characters, you will be disappointed.

Speaking of Robert Conroy, I can't help but compare it with Conroy's 1945 (same assumption: The Emperor is kidnapped after a coup just hours before the war would end).

1945 has an optimistic tone - at the end, the emperor is rescued by an OSS operative and they make peace (and live happily thereafter).

Decisive Darkness doesn't have this optimistic spirit - everything goes down horrible. And there is no clear "good guy vs. bad guy".

Yes, the Japanese Junta are the main villains. But the Allies do not hesitate to do what is necessary to do. No Hollywood-like white knights fighting the bad guys with geometrical precision.

The book repeatedly states that President Truman is viewed by history as a *very* controversial person - and his presidency to be a very polarizing topic after the war.

It also describes that after the coup - with America celebrating V-J day, only to have an "April fools!"-moment just hours later - there are massive retaliations by angry mobs against Asian Americans.

The reader sees how everything turns worse - often in unexpected ways.

For example, a Japanese General in Indonesia/Dutch East India starting to murder Dutch prisoners systematically.

With the idea that his troops are condemned to watch helpless while the Japanese mainland is invaded. And that his crimes would force the allies to invade Indonesia, so that resources are distracted from the Invasion of Japan, thus giving his troops the opportunity to fight the allies.

And the unexpected reaction of a Dutch officer commanding a bomber unit....who executes an unauthorized rogue air raid on the General's HQ using chemical weapons.

Which opens a completely new barrel of worms.

It also hints that the next part - dealing with operation Coronet - will be even darker (also it is hard to imagine after detailed descriptions how chemical warfare on Kyushu turns out, that Japanese schoolgirls execute suicide attacks against Soviet troops e.t.c.)

I look forward to the next book - I will buy and read it as soon as it is published!
